What precautions should I take to protect the exhalation valve in the breathing circuit from the nebulized medication residue?
With a single limb breathing circuit there is no way to protect the exhalation valve from nebulized medication residue.· Medication could harden on the exhalation diaphragm or make the diaphragm sticky, causing it to malfunction.· Clean the exhalation valve as soon as the nebulizer treatment is finished to remove the medication residue.
