HT50

Why does the needle on the Paw meter bounce down below the PEEP level at the end of inspiration when I am using a disposable breathing circuit?

This phenomenon, know as “PEEP dip”, is caused by the exhalation valve performance. Both of the disposable AirlifeÔ breathing circuits with exhalation valves that Newport accepts for use on the HT50 provide a reasonably stable baseline (PEEP) pressure, reliable triggering and reliable volume delivery with the following considerations:
- Trigger should be set > 2 cmH2O/mbar to minimize autotriggering when PEEP is used on patients with normal resistance (5 cmH2O/L/s-mbar/L/s),
- Trigger should be set > 1 cmH2O/mbar to minimize autotriggering when PEEP is used on patients with moderately elevated resistance (20 cmH2O/L/s-mbar/L/s),
