Does the HT50 provide continuous flow through the circuit for the pediatric patient to breathe from spontaneously if the patient fails to trigger the ventilator?
The HT50 Ventilator delivers 7.5 L/min of continuous flow through the circuit only when PEEP is set >0. When PEEP is in use, the 7.5 L/min flow helps to keep the baseline (PEEP) pressure in the breathing circuit stable during exhalation so that the trigger may be set very sensitively without auto-triggering. A sensitive trigger setting makes it easier for the patient to trigger the ventilator with very small efforts. (This flow is not needed to stabilize PEEP and minimize auto-triggering at very sensitive trigger settings when PEEP = 0 [no PEEP].) HT50 trigger may be set as sensitive as 0.1 cmH2O, can be adjusted in 0.1 cmH2O increments and is easy for very small patients to trigger.
